NEACHMM Open Board Elections for CY2019

Please complete the online ballot to elect the NEACHMM Officers for CY2019. Ballot must be completed and submitted by 11/23/18.

Open Positions and Candidate Bios are as follows:

Matthew Hackman, CHMM

(Candidate for Vice President/ President - Elect)

Matt serves as a principal engineer, licensed site professional (LSP), licensed environmental professional (LEP) and technical reviewer applying his experience in air, water and hazardous waste pollution control technologies. His experience includes air and wastewater permitting, PCB/VOC/heavy metals/ municipal landfill remediation/ RCRA/CERCLA/TSCA, specifications for remedial activities during facility closure and UST upgrades and innovative soil, groundwater, and wastewater recycling/reuse technologies. He also has extensive experience in wastewater treatment, particularly industrial pretreatment technologies with emphasis on physical/chemical treatment. Matt has designed pretreatment facilities for the printed circuit board, chemical manufacturing and electroplating/metal finishing industries as well as participated in the design of RCRA Part-B treatment, storage and disposal facilities.

Matt has employed a wide variety of remedial technologies including physical/chemical and biological. He has been self-employed since 1996 providing PE, LSP and LEP regulatory compliance services both to other environmental services firms and to industrial, developer and government clients. Matt is a senior level CHMM and has been on the Board continuously as a Director at Large and Past-President of NEACHMM and he currently serves on the AHMP Awards Committee.

Jim C. Harrison, CHMM

(Candidate for Treasurer)

Jim is currently retired. As recently as 2017 he was the EHS Manager for Veolia-Kendall Green Energy facility located in Cambridge MA.. He managed compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. Prior to working at Veolia-KGE Jim worked as an EHS Manager for Garelick Farms, Lynn, MA and BAE Systems, IR Semiconductor Division, Lexington MA. The key regulatory issues Jim managed were: MADEP Air Emission Permitting, MWRA Sewer Discharge regulations, RCRA Hazardous Waste, NPDES Permit, AST/UST’s, MCP Soil & Groundwater Contamination, OSHA Safety and Health.

Jim has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a M.S. in Engineering Management both from Northeastern University. Jim’s initial career experience (15 yrs.) was as a project engineer at Polaroid’s Chemical Operations Division. This involved designing and installing, UST’s, Hazardous Waste Storage Tanks, Reactor & Filtration systems, Wastewater Treatment Equipment, Air Abatement Devices, and Groundwater Remediation Systems.  Jim had been working actively in the EHS business for the last 25 years

Mike Pietila, CHMM

(Candidate for Director at Large)

Mike has been the Environmental Health and Safety Officer for the University of Massachusetts Medical School MassBiologics Campus for 10 years. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry. Currently his responsibilities include covering multiple site air, water and hazardous waste issues along with all facility safety training and other environmental issues. He is also a member of the Umass medical school IBC (institutional biosafety committee).

Mike has been a CHMM since 2006, is a past VP and NEACHMM President (2013) and served as a Director at Large 2010-2011 and again 2014-present. Some of his key accomplishments while on the board include serving on both the Golf Outing and the Scholarship committees.   He holds a Massachusetts DEP Grade 2 Industrial Wastewater Treatment License and a Massachusetts Underground Storage Tank Class A/B Operator Certificate. He is a member of the NFPA, received his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from Fitchburg State University and a certificate in Environmental Engineering from the University of Lowell.  

Matthew Montefusco, CHMM

(Candidate for Director at Large)

Matt has been NEACHMM past president (1998 and 2016) and has been active member on our NEACHMM board as well as on several committees over the last twenty one years as a CHMM (masters level). Matt has over forty two years of extensive environmental management experience: fifteen years of experience with specialty chemicals: product sales, product distribution, custom applications and system implementation; twenty-four years of environmental remediation and safety and health project management.  He is actively involved in all phases of environmental project management and contracting to include: emergency response clean-up, Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments, site remediation, hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.  Matt conducts OSHA-type compliance audits, plan development, environmental training, and product sales/application. He also has extensive experience with indoor air quality investigations, project oversight and project design.  Additionally, Matt is a Certified Microbial Consultant (master’s level). Who conducts all types of Indoor Air Quality assessments and investigations. Matt is a United State Army veteran and holds degrees Economic and Business Management from Westfield State University.

Jessican Morrison, CHMM

(Candidate for Director at Large)

Jessica Morrison is a Senior Compliance Specialist with Burns & McDonnell, an environmental and engineering design firm. She has 15 years of experience in the environmental field specializing in air and multimedia compliance for industrial and manufacturing clients. Her primary focus includes preparing air and wastewater permit applications, conducting regulatory reviews and facility audits, and providing facility compliance assistance in support of air, water, and waste regulations and permit requirements. Jessica has been a CHMM since 2010 and became active with the New England Chapter in 2016. She has regularly been participating in New England Chapter events since that time.
